parkway road apartments

A second, larger residential project in the London commuter belt town of Chelmsford builds on the ideas introduced at Wicks Place. With more space to play, the building takes a more traditional rectangular form but creates visual diversity by laying individual apartments out in an interlocking pattern, that creates alternation in the façade. Once again, greenery is given importance through the introduction of garden/allotment terraces, which provide each unit with outdoor relaxation space and a place to grow produce, if desired. Together with the opaque skin of u-channel glass, part of which is fixed in place, part of which can be folded back to open the terrace up during pleasant weather, these outer layers serve to protect residents from the noisy exterior. Strategic pavement planting and rooftop gardens complete the leafy offerings.
