tech eco-retreat

2018
Located within a green natural landscape on the outskirts of Moscow, the architecture of this eco-retreat reflects the surrounding elements of water, forest, and open land, intervening sensitively where these elements best interact.
The architecture of the project aspires to create a sustainable, environmentally conscious village where human activities are harmlessly integrated into nature in a way that is conducive to healthy human development and beneficial to the environment. Drawing inspiration from the Russian vernacular ‘izba’ farmhouse, the design translates traditional forms into a contemporary architectural language.
‘The Loop’ serves as a site-wide, unifying element, a ring-shaped geometry that delineates the site and ties it together, deviating at specific points to adapt to the undulating landscape. Within this loop, all key activities are contained, such as meeting points, relaxation areas, and recreational spaces. The Loop functions as an activator at a territorial scale, connecting different areas of the campus and providing it with a sense of direction and place. Amongst the greenery, three communal cluster types are proposed, each offering a varying level of interaction between its individual units in a critical balance between privacy and connectivity.
