In the heart of Seoul, a small monolith with a finely chiseled dark concrete surface subtly disrupts the street façade in a district of townhouses and villas. Pyrite, a private residence with ancillary spaces, emphasizes interlocking forms generated through the twisting of the upper volume to capture different views, echoing the cuboid formation of its crystal namesake.
Split vertically into two sections, the larger portion serves as the owner's personal residence and home office, accessed through a private elevator and staircase. The adjoining section and part of the basement accommodate smaller units and an artist studio leased to friends. All residents share a subterranean basketball court and atelier.
The spatial configuration reinforces pyrite crystal geometry, interlocking the owner's private quarters with different units on each level. This dynamic planar order, set back on the first floor, allows for private gardens blending with living spaces. The rooftop terrace offers dramatic views of Seoul's skyline, a haven from the city's bustle.
